Hustle Culture In Web3 - Issue 008
Hello, amazing person,
Glory Praise, here again, your paddy in this web3 space. Before diving into the main topic of this newsletter, I want to say a huge thank you to you, yes, you for always reading my newsletters (and watching my videosđ).
đ± Whatâs New?
Quick question, are you tapping? đ
If you donât get the question, donât worryâIâll explain.
Thereâs a new (well, not so new) trend that has brought a lot of people into the crypto and web3 spaces. I like to call it "tap to earn." You interact with some gamified Web3 platforms where the more you tap, the more points you score, which translates to more money you make when their crypto launches. The first was Notcoin, and they rewarded users generously. I heard some people got as much as $7,000 from it, which attracted many others into the crypto space. Now, there are several new ones, like Tapswap, getting everyone, young and old, tapping on their phones.
Is this a good or a bad thing, you may ask?
I canât say definitively, but one of the great aspects of the Web3 space is community rewards. What does this mean? Unlike Web2 companies like Google, Amazon, etc., which primarily take from their users, Web3 companies often reward users for using their applications and products. This could be in the form of airdrops, discounts, free access to perks, etc., and I love it for us.
There are also many interesting projects in Web3 that monitor our regular activities and reward us for them. For example, we have had "walk to earn" (the more you walk, the more you are rewarded), "read to earn," "play to earn," and now "tap to earn." So, this isnât entirely new.
The sad thing is that many people coming into the Web3 space to make money focus only on these projects, missing out on other opportunities. This can be unhealthy because, if theyâre not careful, some might find out after a few years that all they did was chase shiny new things and make small cash without really understanding the Web3 space or contributing in a meaningful way.
My 2 cents?
If your goal is to build a career in the web3 space, while doing these fun activities for quick bucks, ensure you also have something valuable to offer. Ask yourself: How would I earn a living if these projects stopped giving out free money? The answer is value.
Value can be a skill or service you provide (e.g., coding, design, writing), it could be researching and educating (teaching others what youâve learned about the space), or it could be other skills like event planning, speaking at events, contributing to open source, entertainment, etc. Find something you can offer, build on it, and start charging for it. This way, youâre building a career around that thing and earning from it. You can become a thought leader in that area in the Web3 space this way.
In the future, when they mention people who were actively contributing at the beginning of web3, they wonât mention those who just did activities for quick cash. Theyâll mention those who contributed to the space in meaningful ways.
So, my friend, whether youâre tapping or not, make sure youâre adding value to the Web3 space. Thatâs what will count in the months and years to come.
Donât be consumed by the hustle culture in the space.
That said, if you cash out from this tapping, donât forget to send my cut as your web3 buddy! Donât forget me ooooooo.
I hope this helped!
What else do you think I should write about?
